Variability of Bimodal Soil-Water Characteristic Curves under Different Confining Pressures

نویسندگان

چکیده

Soils with two subcurves of Soil-Water Characteristic Curve (SWCC) (dual porosity soils) might be found within various residual soils. located in different depths have confining pressure. Residual soils are the unsaturated zones due to deep groundwater table. There is a linear correlation between hydraulic properties soil area and that its properties. This study aims examine influence pressure towards SWCC dual soil. The scope this involves measurements drying wetting using Tempe cells, plates, an advanced triaxial apparatus. In study, mathematical equations were developed explain effect on SWCC. experimental results indicated exhibits bimodal characteristics for curve it unimodal As increases, air entry values, inflection points, standard deviation increase. addition, hysteresis becoming smaller increasing

Statistical Assessment of Models for Determination of Soil – Water Characteristic Curves of Sand Soils

Characterization of the engineering behavior of unsaturated soil is dependent on the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC), a graphical representation of the relationship between water content or degree of saturation and soil suction. A reasonable description of the SWCC is thus important for the accurate prediction of unsaturated soil parameters. The measurement procedures for determining the...

Evaluation of Bouwer-Rice Large-Particle Correction Procedure for Soil Water Characteristic Curves

The Bouwer-Rice correction method to account for large particles excluded during laboratory testing to measure the soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) was evaluated on samples of well-graded alluvium. A large-scale hanging column apparatus was used so that tests could be conducted on specimens containing all particle sizes. The analyses show that SWCCs measured on the fraction of alluvium fi...

Estimation of Soil-Water Characteristic Curves in Multiple-Cycles Using Membrane and TDR System

The objective of this study is to estimate multiple-cycles of the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) using an innovative volumetric pressure plate extractor (VPPE), which is incorporated with a membrane and time domain reflectometry (TDR). The pressure cell includes the membrane to reduce the experimental time and the TDR probe to automatically estimate the volumetric water content. For the...

Equations for the soil-water characteristic curve

The soil-water characteristic curve can be used to estimate various parameters used to describe unsaturated soil behaviour. A general equation for the soil-water characteristic curve is proposed. A nonlinear, least-squares computer program is used to determine the best-fit parameters for experimental data presented in the literature. The equation is based on the assumption that the shape of the...

Adsorption of arsenic on soil under different soil moisture conditions

The adsorption study was conducted on three Japanese soils with different soil properties to characterize the adsorption pattern of Arsenic (As). Double tube method was used to find out the effect of soil moisture levels on As adsorption. For this study, besides double tube method, conventional batch method also was used. The As adsorption showed two phase kinetics. An initial and rapid adsorpt...
